Enterprise APN Solutions explained and improved

An advanced, integrated, secure layer.

What is an APN?

An Access Point Name (APN) is a gateway between a GSM, GPRS, 4G, 5G mobile network and other network

The iONLINE APN enterprise solution is unique in that it is isolated and secure, integrated with private ip deployment.

Any mobile device making a data connection must be configured with an APN (Access Point Name) to present to the carrier. When the carrier receives the connection request it examines the identity of both the SIM and the APN name to determine what type of network connection should be established.

At iONLINE, we utilise APN technology as one of the many network stack layers to create fully secure private mobile connected networks.

We integrate additional technologies into our network to provide you with advanced connected networks that is fully managed, & redundant across multiple network providers and geographical locations.

We make it easy to manage and even easier to use.

Your phone is using

an APN right now

If you're using a mobile device for internet access, your device is connecting with an APN and you may not even know it. The power of an iONLINE APN is the technology we have integrated into it, which gives you a fully secure, fully managed private mobile network.

The role of an APN

An APN tells the service provider which IP addresses to assign to the device, which security methods to use, and whether to connect it to a public or a private network. iONLINE uses infrastructure and technology to give APNs greater security, redundancy, and manageability.

Configurability of APNs

APNs give a high level of configurability, but iONLINE's Connected Networks solution is even more advanced.

iONLINE offers advanced firewall rules, allowing you to limit where your data can be used in several ways. Our solutions allow you to configure settings such as IP address ranges, static or dynamic addressing and authentication techniques on your private connected network, all delivered over multiple options.

Our connected network platform also allows you to limit where your data can be used by locking specific connections down to a service, server, network, signature or connection endpoint.

Cutting costs with an APN

Private APNs are the best way for your business to use mobile data in a cost-effective way.

Without an APN a business has to buy multiple data contracts from providers, creating what is known as data spillage - when data you have paid for goes unused.

iONLINE's solution saves organisations as much as 80% of their data costs thanks to the features we have included in our connected networks solution.  Ask us how.

An overview of our APN solutions

APN services generally enable a single MNO

iONLINE’s solution gives you national and global coverage on multiple networks, with coverage options on multiple MNOs, ensuring you always have the best connection and speed no matter your location.

iONLINE’s solution gives you access to multiple networks both locally and internationally, all with a single APN name. Our network aggregation solves the problem of network dependence and signal loss. All the data used on iONLINE's connected network solution (regardless of which provider you use) comes out of the one agreement with iONLINE.

Security of APNs

One of the biggest advantages of an APN is the security that comes with it. Our solution utilises this security and merges it into an even more highly secure and private mobile network.

  • Learn more

Private APN technology allows organisations to use the mobile network operator’s infrastructure as a secure way for their users to connect directly into the organisation’s private network.

iONLINE’s solutions exceed what other providers can offer, giving you increased security with advanced features such as access control, location-based services, and advanced firewalling, and limiting services and server access through controlled connections running through your now fully secure private mobile network.

Subscribers who are connected through a private APN are only visible to other devices on the same APN. This makes private APNs a superior solution in terms of data security when compared to the public network.

Only devices with a private APN provisioned SIM can access your private network and only if you have given those SIMs access to your network through your internal firewall.

External corporate infrastructure is only exposed to provisioned devices and not to the whole internet.

With iONLINE’s APNs, all security systems and supporting platforms are incorporated into our CloudAPN offering, including firewalls, IDS, IPS, DPI, proxy, hardened core system, and layered security.

Low-level malware such as root-kits, which can bypass the VPN enforcement, cannot bypass the APN.

All the infrastructure needed for an APN

With iONLINE’s solution you do not need to put more infrastructure into your network to reap the rewards. All of the required infrastructure is built in and managed by us.

  • Learn more

As an iONLINE client you will not need expensive fibre infrastructure like traditional APN offerings. Our solution requires:

    - No expensive MPLS networks.

    - No need for extra redundancy.

    - No need for extra management to provide enough throughput for your network at peak usage times, trying to juggle quality of service.

We fully manage every aspect of your now global and fully secure private mobile network. We don’t build APNs, we connect networks, secure data and manage the hassle, and we do it well.

Different types of APNs

There are two main types of APNs available: public APNs and private/corporate APNs. These two APNs are vastly different. We provide private/corporate APN services.

  • Learn more

    Public APNs

Public APNs are configured on the mobile network by default and usually break out directly to the internet.

    Private/corporate APN

Private or corporate APNs are used to utilise mobile networks to connect users to your own internal private network. Private APN technology can be used as one of the many layers in iONLINE's platform to lower mobile data costs, while our management platform allows you to manage mobile data more effectively.

iONLINE's connected network solution uses APNs and other advanced security platforms to make our networks extremely secure, which is a huge advantage for all businesses.

Manageability of APNs

Managing an APN from a single provider takes time and effort. iONLINE gives you incredible tools and features to manage not only the APN but the entire private mobile network - the data, users and SIMs - giving you more control than a traditional APN solution.

iONLINE’s solution allows you to manage all your SIMs and data usage from a single location. Thanks to our data management tools and services you will see further cost savings, while our company usage and security policy implementation will allow you to limit your users from using websites or services that are not work related.

There is no limit to the number of SIMs you can add, making our product offering completely scalable as your business grows. Our management platform enables you to manage your entire multi-network SIM environment from one simple-to-use and intuitive portal, providing you with exactly what every connection, SIM, user, and group or cost centre is doing on your network.

iONLINE’s management platform allows for data allocation, setting data limits, notifications, suspensions, and full reporting right up to SIM level.
